Finding information in the blogosphere

Despite the fact it should be easy to find information in the blogosphere, I’m finding it takes quite a bit of work. Technorati is no help, mainly because they user a primitive ranking algorhythm. You’d have a hard time finding the side of a barn with them, frankly.
Some of the social news websites aren’t bad. You can find new stories at Digg, Netscape, and even Reddit and thumbd. You’ll do less wading through bad posts, generally, with the rated stories, but you’ll still run into your share of issues.
Google Blogsearch is probably the best way to search blogs, but barely. Bloglines has some decent features, but they need improvement too.
The efforts are getting better in Blog Search, but a possible hybrid directory/search engine just for blogs might be the best bet. If you can add user voting, it might actually replicate something like “choosing quality resources”, but it would still have a big bias on established blogs. For now I’ll continue to use my random methods of search.
