Yes, SEO is getting tougher for everyone as personalization catches on. If you’re logged into a “Google Account” you’ll start noticing more and more of the personalization features being used. The amount of data Google can collect with their user’s logged in is quite high, so personalizing search by storing preferences will likely become a preferred way of “helping” with search. The Google Personalized Homepage is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what you can now personalize.

How will SEOs cope with personalization on a massive bases? It’s going to take some rapid evolution in thought patterns in certain quarters. Personalization means that every damn person on the internet could now theoretically see different results on every search. You can almost immediatedly consider how this type of watershed change in search could really make it difficult for a lot of sites that are common now to even make it in the future.

If you haven’t been paying much attention to the Personalized Home page and other features in Google lately, it’s worth a look. They even can do queryless searches for users, so you can imagine what a quantum leap this all really is.

Do you use Personalized Search?
