When you look at the primary maintenance you’ll have to do with most websites, it can be broken down into a few basic categories. One of the biggest chores you’ll find is keeping on top of your outgoing links. As the years pass, many of the websites you link to will change also, and not for good reasons in most of the cases.

Things that can happen:

  • Pages you link to can be removed
  • Pages may link to websites that aren’t there anymore
  • Expired domains can be purchased by web marketers, who then change the content
  • Redirects to worse quality websites

The longer you’re around, the more tricks you’ll see. The best way in the end is to actually take the time and review the pages you link to. In the end, that’s the only way to see the content on the other end. Sure, it’s a lot of work, but it will be worth it.
