The DoFollow Movement - The Dumbest Idea I Heard All Day

Okay, I have to admit I’m still cracking up about the “DoFollow” movement. I hadn’t paid any attention to the issue. As far as I was concerned, the nofollow tag, as it related to blog comments made complete success. People who comment in your blog should do so, not because they expect a reward in the form of Google Juice, but because they actually feel like contributing something.
Anyways, a whole different school of though grew up where people decided that “following” blog comments was somehow a sacred thing. Of course the main people interested in whether comments allow live un-nofollowed links are search engine marketers. Obviously, who would give a rat’s ass otherwise. Certainly not the millions of webmasters who don’t trivialize themselves with such issues.
So now you will see “tips” for search marketers like this tip, a compilation of “dofollow” blogs where you can go and “add your link.” You can sense the excitement of the amateur “link builders” as evidenced in comments like this one:

Mihai says:Great list. I am a fan of blog comments. While even the nofollow links help, these are better.
LOL, truly adorable. Mihai is a fan of “blog comments.” Frankly, rewarding comment-makers for such contributions seems laughable. I guess if you’re feeling truly lonely and hard up it might be worth it.

Can you explain to me what is amateur about gaining links from blogs with related content, high authority and loads of link juice?
I can’t find any of your advanced link building tactics on this blog. Perhaps we should start a directory? That’s a high quality link!

Sure I can, Mark. It’s amateur to “target” blogs based on your needs as a “link builder.” That really isn’t the point of blogs, and it never was.
Secondly, you didn’t spend even two seconds looking for any link building tactics on the blog, you just came in and fired a comment. After all, that is your specialty. Perhaps you should start a directory, your current business model doesn’t look that impressive to me.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.

Mark is promoting a custom search engine that helps people find dofollow blogs.

He even comes here to imply that you’re opinion is wrong about dofollow. However… he does not use it himself. I wonder why?

His idea of “targeting” dofollow blogs is the exact reason nofollow came into existence. I’m pretty sure the irony is lost on him.
