Mildred Loving passed on today. Her story was one of love. Mildred Loving fell in love with a white man in 1967 and had to sue the government in order to realize her dream of marrying him.

Mildred Loving died at 68. In 1967, her and her husband Richard Loving ended up having to fight all the way to the supreme court in order to get married. Their efforts resulted in 17 states overturning laws that made interracial marriage legal.
Mildred Loving makes us all realize just how long the U.S. has come concerning race in the last four decades, and how far the country still has to go. Her friend, Peggy Fortune, had this to say: “I want (people) to remember her as being strong and brave yet humble — and believed in love.”
Mildred and Richard Loving stayed married until Richard’s death.
