Turning off all PHP warnings. Depending on your set up, you might be getting a large number of warnings from a PHP script that are written into you Apache log files. Normally, the correct solution would be to fix the script, and all warnings would be eliminated. But on certain occasions, this isn’t an option.

NOTE: Keep a record of any changes you make to your configuration. If you turn off php warnings and don’t remember doing it, you might run into a snag later.

If you’re pressed for time and want to stifle all warnings, add this to the top of any file that is included from your main PHP script.

<?php include error_reporting(0); ?>

Now, this won’t just stop the warnings from being printed on the site, but it will also kill all errors being written to your website’s error_log.

If you want to just suppress warnings on your site, and you have access to your .htaccess file, then make a simple edit.

php_value display_errors 0

In order to add error checking back to your website:

php_value display_errors 1
php_value error_reporting 2047

It’s totally up to you how you want to handle error checking, but if you have a script that you don’t plan on changing that is creating error log files of huge sizes, then patching the code as illustrated in example one should do the trick.

“I talked to Jeremy on the phone, and he told me that he discovered that he had a very high level of mercury,” Mamet said. “So my understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer.”

Coupon Mom is the newest idea to help save consumers money.

Coupon Mom basically uses coupons to achieve the savings.

When you get your Sunday paper you will follow the steps below:

1) Remove relevant store ads and coupon inserts and date the inserts with a marker on the front. You will put the date and the code for the insert distributor (see “key” below), (i.e. “3/2 SS”)

2) Slip the inserts into a page protector. Note: you may opt to use the address labels to label the outsides of the page protectors instead of writing on them.

3) Slip all the store ads into a single page protector at the back of your notebook. You will want to keep the Sunday ads separate from the Wednesday ads (if your area has both) for ease of reference.

It may be helpful to you if you glance through the coupons and the sales fliers each week but you DO NOT need to clip the coupons (YET)!

Doesn’t sound too difficult. Visit Coupon Mom for more details.

Here’s an easy SEO trick that you might not be familiar with. But you can use Google, or more specifically Google Blogsearch to find related posts that your visitors may find interesting. What’s nice about this technique, is that the pages are written by competing webmasters, who are likely to think of words you haven’t.

Here’s the basic idea.

1) Extract the keywords from your title
2) Query Google Blogsearch with the phrase. Grab the response in XML.
3) Parse the XML and add display the 10 related links.

Why does this work?

It offers ten related links on every content page you have. This means your page is probably very helpful to the end user because it presents her with many choices. Plus, the keywords from their titles are now added to your page, which is really good for your on-page optimization.

You can use Magpie RSS and PHP to do the job, if you know how. I can include some examples in future posts.

This technique is simple and super easy.

You have to hand it to Danny Ledonne. He’s in the news today, and not in a way that most people would want. This is a person who actually helps serial killers practice their “Art”. The most recent shooting ocurred in Canada, at the hands of a person who loved playing the game “Super Columbine Massacre”.

Can you imagine loving violence so much you make a game out of it? Wow. And now you find out that someone who “really loved your game” like Kimveer Gill has completed a real-life massacre.

If you’re like Danny Ledonne, you make the game “an indictment of our society at large”. I wonder what gives Danny a right to “indight society” at all. His list of accomplishments, if any, is quite small. He anticipated a negative public reaction concerning the game, and tried to keep his role in its’ creation quiet.

Ledonne said:

“The game does not glorify school shootings,” Ledonne told The Washington Post. “If you make it far enough into the game, you see very graphic photos of Eric and Dylan lying dead. I can’t think of a more effective way to confront their actions and the consequences those actions had.”

Imagine the negative feelings that families of the Columbine victims must feel towards Ledonne and his “game”. Even worse, imagine the feelings of the newest victims who will now learn that Kimveer Gill loved playing this violent game, and ended up wearing a black trench coat and killing innocent people!

Here’s a link to Danny Ledonne’s Myspace Profile.

Judging from his picture, Ledonne wouldn’t fare well in most violent confrontations, especially hand to hand combat.

Funny enough, Ledonne even claims he was heading down the same path. So, in simpler terms, he had ideas of doing a massacre himself.

“The same was true of Columbine. I had thoughts of hurting myself or hurting someone else and Columbine forced me to take a long hard look at those ideas and walk away from that.

I’m not attempting to make the point that video games kill people. Ultimately Kimveer Gill was responsible for his own actions. But to act like a video game developer has no connection between the actions of someone who played the game, even going so far as to profess love for it, is also short-sighted.

At the very least, you help someone imagine and execute practice murders hundreds or even thousands of times a day.

In his defense, Ledonne had this to say:

“I am, like most, saddened by the news of the recent shooting at Dawson College. I extend my condolences to those affected by this painful event,” Ledonne wrote.

What do you think? Does Donny Ledonne bare some responsibility for the actions of Kimveer Gill?

Google has been extremely quick to index pages lately, IMHO. I’ve been seeing the trend for a number of weeks, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all. That’s a lot like Google was in 2004, when life was good in Google.

Google knows that freshness and comprehensiveness are important if they’re to maintain their lead in the search engine wars, and many of the techniques they’ve introduced in the last few months to “fight spam” don’t serve to help new sites get found.

But if they spend too much time not indexing pages, then it’s extremely likely they’ll fall behind to a company that’s more aggressive. Consider how Yahoo’s SiteExplorer has completely surpassed Google when it comes to site exploration tools for webmasters.

Google’s search is also extremely vulnerable, especially if they continue to show a bias towards old pages. If social bookmarking sites ever harness more power, they could threaten the very existence of Google.
